Every photographer has a mental list of shoots that they would just LOVE to do. For example, if you are having a traditional Indian wedding ceremony and are actually riding in on an elephant, call me, we’ll shoot your wedding for peanuts (get it, elephant, peanuts…I’m hilarious!). The same thing goes for anything at the White House, on a sailboat, or actually on the field at Wrigley. Even with that stuff on my list, I got to cross one off recently.
Chris called me inquiring about engagement photos in Vail. Always cool, but nothing too new. Then I found out he hadn’t actually asked his girlfriend Lisa yet. The wheels started spinning. A couple of years ago, Jenny and I saw a blog post from a really cool, clandestine PROPOSAL shoot in Central Park in NYC. I thought that the images and the concept were awesome. Enter Chris and his willingness to take one of the most stressful moments of any guy’s life, and have it all captured for eternity. Serious stones, and total props to him for being so willing.
We organized the time, place and details: Chris and Lisa would ride the gondola to the top of Vail where he would propose while they were strapping into their snowboards. I would try and hide my 6’6″ frame and bright green ski outfit and capture this all without Lisa knowing.
In a nutshell, she said yes, things went off without too much of a hitch, and Chris says she doesn’t know I was there. With that in mind, Lisa, you were beautiful and a total sport…and I hope you don’t mind that I was there hiding behind German tourists, trail signs, and trees. Either way, you were both great for the engagement shoot a couple days later, and congratulations again!

Hiding out…I’m stealthier than I look.

That’s a yes…

Happy guy!

We got together a couple days later for the engagement session.

Chris, there’s your Covered Bridge shot!

Thanks so much again, and I can’t wait for the wedding in Philly!
