Real Baby Ad Shoot

A few weeks ago, we got a call from our good friend Stacey Benham, owner and operator of Stacey B Creative. Stacey was hired to do the ad campaign for the launch of Real Baby, Inc.’s new Boulder location, and she needed some shots for print and web marketing. Real Baby is an awesome retail store aimed, aptly enough, at mothers with babies and toddlers. Their products are fun and fresh and definitely full of color.  They are shooting for an August opening for their Boulder location.

The design of the campaign is to feature Boulder locals doing “real” things with their babies. We decided to work with some great folks who own their own businesses and have babies that help them out all the time. With the concept in hand, Stacey set up a Saturday morning shoot with Allie and Lydia Patterson, as well as Brian and Toby Benham. Hilary, owner of Real Baby brought some great items from her shop for the kids to wear and play with.

We shot Allie and Lydia first. Allie owns Ice Box Bakery here in Boulder. Among other things, Ice Box makes amazing, all-natural refrigerated cookie dough, ready to slice and bake. The idea of the shoot was to get Allie slicing dough for cookies, as well as filling orders for Ice Box. All Lydia had to do was be cute and look happy. She’s got that nailed.

Great color in the clothes and toys, set against the steel of the kitchen

Everyone was having a great time

Next we shot Brian and Toby Benham. Brian owns Dish Gourmet on Pearl Street Mall in Boulder. Jenny and I spend probably too many lunches there, but the food is absolutely incredible, and it gets us out of the house in the middle of the day! Seriously, go have the Gobbler. You’ll never look back.

Anyway, Toby Benham has been rock star in our books since our first portrait sitting with him a few months ago. He’s a little older and wiser now, but he still has that great attitude. We had to leave the warmth of the kitchen at Dish for the Boulder Farmer’s Market a few blocks away. It was a little brisk out, but Toby was still a champ.

…and the world’s best lentils

Great produce and greens at the Farmer’s Market

All in all, it was a good shoot on a beautiful day. I don’t know yet how the shots will be used by Real Baby, and we still have a few sessions to go before we have all the shots we need. I hope they all go as well!
